Local trains in Bangalore
We never realize but Bangalore city and suburbs already has about 200 kms of railway lines currently in existence and also being operational. These lines run in all directions from the city center and are also quite well interlinked.
This existing infrastructure can be put to good use by running local trains like in Mumbai or Chennai. This will ease pressure on the roads. The only expenditure would be to build more stations enroute and buy new train coaches.
BMTC can help a bit by providing feeder bus service from railway stations to nearby localities.
Sir,
Best wishes and I agree and foresee this as a much important of a Metro city. Right now we have a ready rail line, which have very little rail traffic. (presently doubling in progress). And can commence straight away (in one year), with all the infrastructure put in at each stations and adding few intermediate stations with platforms. (new stations can happen, even in a span of two to three years)
This is the Malur / Hosur – Karmel stn, white field, KR Puram, Yellanka, Devanahalli/ Chik Ballapur. Need new platforms and infrastructure at Hormavu, Geddlahalli(Hennur), Thanisandra, near NH crossing, and few more up to Devanahalli. Traffic on this route is growing and many Airport bond passengers from Blr. east and north east, north west can take this suburban rail.
Same way, the KR puram, Byappanahalli, Banswadi, Yelanka rail line is also not busy, Can introduce suburban trains on this line also. Other inner city, due to present rail traffic and only two line available, this may not be possible. But can introduce few trains from 0900 am to 0500 PM. But the suburban trains are need for the office goers during the office peak time.
